Manchester Met portfolio

This is a video of my coat down the image catwalk at
the clothes show live.

In December I was one of the 5 students chosen to have my garment I had produced under the module natural forms to be presented at the Clothes Show live in Birmingham I was ecstatic to be given this opportunity as my coat would be displayed on the graduate catwalk in association with Company magazine to over 126,000 people that visited the clothes show live throughout the week. My college was one of the only colleges to have our work displayed on the graduates collection catwalk it was an amazing opportunity I really enjoyed the experience. I gained a lot of insight and knowledge from this experience working to a deadline to complete my garment and making sure I followed my design brief. I felt overwhelmed seeing my design idea I sketched become a walking piece of art.

Here i have displayed pictures from my work on the natural forms module, I have used Photoshop to create a front cover. In the mood board of my module I have included my coat I constructed as well as one of the statement materials as the background, i have also displayed a architecture response from a butterfly inspired museum I found the shape and their inspiration very interesting. I enjoy using Photoshop within my work I feel it gives that extra look to my portfolio. I have also included pictures of my butterfly sketches I enjoyed drawing these and getting the feel to how much movement and detail is in a butterfly.

In my spare time i love doing things that I think will further my knowledge and I will enjoy I decided to make a suit that I would used fabric manipulation and dye. I done this by using brusho dyes.I was so happy with the outcome, this is when i grew a real interest in fabric manipulation I love how dying or printing etc can make such a huge difference to a garment.

Also in my spare time I produced I produce different types of garments I did this a lot during the summer to gain more experience and business skills. To give my garments more of a professional look I had labels made for each garment i sold.

This is a page from my portfolio that I have developed using Photoshop
I love the outcome and enjoy using  this throughout my work. The images displayed are children's  wear i have developed for my sister and cousin.

I enjoyed making this skirt as i love the draped effect i found this skirt
so simple to make yet it looks amazing on. The drape effect gives it a more unique look.

This outfit was one of the garments made for a customer when I sold my garments throughout the summer to gain experience. I loved the drape skirt during the summer and it also seemed to be a hit with other people as it was that bit different it was accomplished with a alter neck top that tied at the back this was for a holiday.

This image is of a set i made during the summer while practicing my skills. I have added Trimming detail on each of the legs and around the neck of the top i used ribbon through the alter neck this gave my garment its finishing touches.

I styled my outfit with a Stella McCartney bag i thought this added colour to the outfit as well as contrasting with the colours in the trimming and next white sandal heels.

I also constructed this garment focusing on the detail in the material i loved the texture this suit tied with black ribbon and was accented with black heeled sandals.

Here i have collected images from different scales I thought would look really good on any
garment, I love the detailing  and natural colours I have also sketched out fishes I had photographed from the Blue planet. I have also put together samples and real fish skin that I found helpful when doing my observation drawing.

This is my final design for the under the sea module.

I love fabric manipulation on garments its one of my favorite things I love to do I love how it
can change a outfit and tell a story adding lots of detail here i have made samples using Pvc glue and plastic  wallets and paint I love the outcome. This would look exceptional on a garment.

Sensational 60s was another module that I have studied I had to construct a inspired 60s dress that was then presented at the my college end of first year fashion show. We converted a old church to display our work. My 60s dress was displayed I enjoyed the atmosphere and experience of being back stage dressing my model and making sure my garment was how i wanted it and the accessories hair and makeup where dealt with.

I have put together a page of observational drawing focusing on things like Shells,
a wine glass and cutlery on a table and a human hand i enjoyed just using a pencil and focusing on
the detail on things and working on my shading threw reflections when drawing.

The images above are from my bag collection. I wanted to put architecture with Cath Kidson inspired material. I decided to do this because I wanted to see how the two would collaborate and I wanted to try something quirky . I focused on buildings throughout different country's, I produced stencil samples using paint and dyes to create prints using the liver buildings in Liverpool for inspiration.

This is a stomacher I produced in my Elizabethan collection . My aim was to make a more modern stomacher.
I used different materials including blue silk white lace and ribbon i also used cardboard to give the stomacher shape and stiffness. I embroidered through the lines on the lace giving it a detailing contrast colour.

I created a suited skirt through my pattern drafting class i really enjoyed this and wore the skirt myself i enjoyed making my own pattern from scratch.
